I loved my 3ds XL. Only thing I'd caution is that as my hands have aged I can't really use it without significant pain in my left thumb. The circle nub thing just doesn't work for me and I end up with shooting pains in my thumb after about half an hour. It's a shame because there's a bunch of great games on the system.
Switch on the other hand is a proper ergonomic delight, for me anyway. The size of the tablet bit means your hands are nice and spread out and it has actually proper thumb sticks that don't wreck my thumbs. Can play on it comfortably until the battery runs down (so what - 20 mins ).
But yes, definitely light on the games. I've been very time poor the last couple of months (cause I stupidly went back to uni to do a masters course, which although great was far too much time and stress!) and have been getting by fine on Zelda, wonder boy, and now mariokart, but the library should be much more filled out in a year. I'm hoping the end up porting a bunch of 3ds games where the second screen isn't absolutely necessary. Would be an amazing catalog of games to get digitally.
