Lots of metallers - awesome. I get to go to this in a few weeks: http://www.templesfestival.co.uk/ . Cannot. Wait.
Tool are just about my favourite heavy band ever. The wait for the new album has been intolerable! Constantly tossing up between whether Aenima or Lateralus is the best album ever. Quite liked 10,000 Days, and it was especially good live, but thought it didn't quite hold up to the previous two.
@Jason - King's X = big thumbs up
@Martus - bandcamp is a financial disaster for me. So many nights I end up trawling it for new music and spending a fortune. In fact, needing to save money I've just ended up signing up to Spotify as a trial. I don't know how I feel about it given how little money artists seem to get, but I tend to go to gigs and buy vinyls and t-shirts and the like, so I don't feel too bad about it. I just need to cut out the dud albums I get every month which I listen to once or twice, and then never come back to!
@Joka - Love Dillinger. Such a good band.
Not an Opeth fan at all - never got into it, which is weird because on paper they're exactly my kind of thing!
@screamy vocals: I love them but realise they're an acquired taste. I tend to thing of them as part of the rhythm section rather than adding anything particularly melodic. The album I always give to people who don't like screaming is by the brilliant Cult of Luna who are just amazing. Their album Somewhere Along the Highway is on my top ten ever, the vocals are almost all screamed and it just adds this amazing texture/rhythm to the sprawling walls of sound they produce. Wouldn't have it any other way! ISIS (the band not the extremists, for government data retention purposes) are another one I put in this category.
Other bands on high rotation at the moment: deafheaven (https://deafheavens.bandcamp.com/), Helms Alee (https://helmsalee.bandcamp.com/), Elder (these guys are seriously amazing (https://beholdtheelder.bandcamp.com/album/lore), pallbearer https://profoundlorerecords.bandcamp.com/album/foundations-of-burden).
Ooh, and just quickly - Melbournites there's a couple of seriously good sludge bands kicking around your city at the moment in the shape of Watchtower (http://store.merhq.com/album/radiant-moon) and Horse Hunter (http://store.merhq.com/album/caged-in-flesh). Apparently both put on amazing live shows. I'm really liking both.
Sorry about the long post, it appears I've turned into @Vroenis !
