Alright look, you know Battlefield is my guilty pleasure so you'd figure by now I've been playing BF1 since launch. It's great, in some ways one of the best titles in the series.
I'm not the best player by far but I like to think I'm middling in the competency ranks. I know games like this will always be best if you can squad up with friends but I don't know anyone else playing it. Nevertheless, in general, the BF community tends to comprise of players who know the game and its play dynamic, so more often not, you can squad up with randos and work together, even without mics, and achieve good results.
Not this weekend.
This weekend I literally watched my entire squad (admittedly of lower level players than I, and I'm not gloriously high levelled at all) run past an enemy who must have felt as incredulous as I, who engaged me in a 1v1 and bested me with an automatic at close range considering I had an SLR. Fair play to my opponent, but holy sweet baby Johann Johannsson what on earth were my entire squad doing? Later on I'd find one of them hiding in a corner doing sweet nothing - and they couldn't have been recovering HP because they'd been there for ages. I dunno. AFK? It was frustrating.
So I know I'm just having a whinge, I guess you folks cop a lot of my venting hay - for which I'm sure Flying Spaghetti Monster stores treasures in heaven for you.
Sometimes I just wish there was a check option for the servers 'contains people playing with their eyes closed and/or televisions/monitors off'.
