War for the Overworld, the crowdfunded unofficial Dungeon Keeper remake. For a low budget indie game that is still pretty much a work in progress, it's surprisingly polished. Also, the writing and voice acting are hilarious. They hit a funding goal that allowed them to hire Richard Ridings, the original DK narrator, and of course he's wonderfully, gleefully evil, but I've been surprised at all the laugh-out-loud funny comments being shouted out by my minions and by attacking heroes. I hovered over my dungeon's sleeping quarters at one point and the sleepy mutterings of my minions had me giggling for a while. (Someone apparently having a nightmare and shouting "Me knees have gone all mushy!" has added a new phrase to my collection.)
There's an attempt at an overarching story, including a lot of foreshadowing as to precisely who the narrator is, and some suggestions that eventually I'll have to fight not only this kingdom but also their goddess.
Gameplay-wise, it's DK in 3D with beautiful graphical detail. The old DK mechanics of digging out rooms, giving the rooms specific functions, and trying to attract powerful minions to your dungeon is pretty much unchanged, but they've added some depth to it as well. One interesting example is captured prisoners. You can leave them in jail to rot (but don't let it get overcrowded or you'll get a jailbreak), you can give them to a succubus to torture until they turn evil and become your minions (very handy with high level enemies), you can throw them into the arena to be torn apart by monsters, which entertains your minions and makes them happy, you can turn them into gold statues to help fill your treasury, and you can even toss them into the kitchen to be cooked and eaten if you're running low on food.
Anyone who always hoped for a Dungeon Keeper 3 should pick it up. It's pretty cheap, looks and sounds great, and updates the classic experience nicely. As far as I know it's PC only, though.
