Finished Stand Alone Complex: 2nd Gig, I think from memory it was my third fourth time, but first in a fair while. While naturally it wasn't quite as mind-blowing as the first couple of runs through, what did really give me a stack of food for thought was its relevance and near sense of the prophetic.
While the timelines are ambitious as far as actual dates go, stretch them out by 50 - 100 years, maybe and some of it could potentially stick. Most of that, though, is just for the technology and futurism. As far as the politics go, what's interesting is the Ghost In The Shell fictional timeline creates two additional world wars: WW3 which is nuclear and between Asia vs Europe and the US, then with the US economically weakened, non-nuclear WW4 which seems to be fought on numerous fronts between a much more factional world.
Not that anyone actually hopes for a world war, well, unless you're heavily invested in the manufacture of arms and munitions and subverting other nations' political and social infrastructures or something...
Also we tried three episodes of The Expanse and while the subject matter seems quite decent aaaaah, well, the show is not for me.
