I'll play! Most of the early games were played through a computer games 'club' at primary school (one BBC Micro for the whole school) or at mates house who were lucky enough to have something to play games on. It is so much easier to choose favourite games from earlier years as there were much less available and you could only afford one or two that you could play to death.
Now, with a little bit of disposable income and cheap games over digital distribution, time to play is a greater issue. Also in recent times I could pick out 10 games a year that I would call outstanding and find it difficult to choose between them. We're spoilt for choice!
Donkey Kong (ColecoVision)
Chuckie Egg
Daley Thompson's Decathlon
Super Mario Bros
The Secret of Monkey Island

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (Ultima VII & Ultimate Underworld joint close second)
Day of the Tentacle (X-Wing, Gabriel Knight so close - good year for games)
TIE Fighter/UFO: Enemy Unknown. Couldn't split them.
You Don't Know Jack (with Jake Cake)
Duke Nukem 3D (we carted computers around just to play across a network)
